Background. As AI becomes embedded in children’s lives, from entertainment to learning, the role of content is transforming—from passive consumption to active, system-embedded dialogue.

Methods. This article draws from content development experience at Mako Kids and research-led design at KidsAI. It integrates global studies, co-design fieldwork, and expert interviews to analyze how children interpret AI tools and how design influences developmental outcomes.

Results. Findings show that children anthropomorphize AI agents and that system behavior often teaches unintended lessons. Core principles of quality content—including age-appropriateness, holistic thinking, inclusion, safety, play-based learning, and cultural relevance—remain essential in AI-driven environments. Structured prompts, ethical voice design, and scaffolded interactions are key design features in KidsAI’s work, including the development of Olly, KidsAI’s assistant for kids.

Conclusions. Content must now function as ethical infrastructure in sociotechnical systems. Designers must avoid emotional simulation and focus on supporting autonomy, reflection, and cognitive safety. AI should guide—not mimic—human relationships, with clarity and respect.

The relevance of the article. Relevance. In today’s rapidly developing world, where sustainability and environmental awareness have become major global issues, special attention should be paid to early childhood education and the promotion of sustainable values. One of the key tools in this process is high-quality children’s media content.

Research objectives. The article examines the importance of high-quality content in children’s media to promote sustainable values and improve early childhood development. The necessity of creating high-quality content in the media for young children is discussed, high-quality content is determined and evaluated, and how it can raise awareness and cause changes in social behavior is investigated.

Research progress. The article takes a case study approach and analyzes Kozalak Preschool, an animated series created by the author of the article that models sustainable practices and encourages children to connect with nature. The series, created as part of the Increasing Quality of and Access to Early Childhood Education Services Project (ECE) in Turkey and serves as an example of how quality content can promote sustainable behavior and support early childhood development.

Conclusions. High-quality content serves as a powerful tool for promoting sustainable development and shaping a more optimistic future. Through the integration of educational elements, positive role modeling, socio-emotional learning and an emphasis on environmental awareness, children’s media can help young minds become catalysts for change. By cultivating an understanding of sustainable development and strengthening commitment to environmental protection, high-quality content in children’s media can have a long-term impact on their development and inspire them to become active defenders of our planet.

Relevance (context) of the article. Play is important not only for the full life of preschool childhood, but also for the formation of psychological readiness for school. Play support is one of the key aspects of high-quality practice. At the same time, the analysis of existing studies shows that the level of development of preschool children’s play remains low, and the conditions for it are at a minimum level. To change this situation, an objective analysis of the practice is necessary, highlighting the strengths and points of growth.

The aim of the study. Development and testing of the scale “Support for Children’s Play” (SCP) as a tool for assessing and developing the quality of the educational environment of the kindergarten.

Description of the research progress. A scale was developed and tested, consisting of 97 indicators, grouped into 7 indicators. The scale design corresponds to the instruments of the ECERS family. The course of instrument validation in 32 preschool groups is described: checking the internal consistency of the instrument (Alpha-Cronbach), reliability by the method of inter-expert consistency, checking the validity and determining the discriminative function by the method of contrast groups (the significance of differences in the Welch-modification t-tests and the Mann-Whitney shift criteria).

Research results. Statistical analysis showed that the scale has good internal consistency (Alpha-Cronbach coefficient = 0.89), validity (differences between contrast groups are significant at the level of 0.01, p-value = 7.294e-06 according to Welch-t-test, p-value = 0.0002733 according to Wilcoxon test) and sufficient reliability (the average model of deviations of paired inter-expert assessments was 0.47 points, which is significantly lower than the standard deviation for the total score of the entire sample (sd = 1.1695).

Conclusion. The SCP scale can be applied not only for external expert assessment and self-assessment, but also as a tool for the professional development of a teacher in order to reflect on his own strategy for supporting the play and finding growth points. The article proposes measures to improve the tool in order to increase reliability, including the development of a training program for experts.

The article analyzes modern studies of the play of preschool children, identifies a set of conditions necessary for its development, including three groups of parameters: characteristics of the subject-spatial environment, teacher–children interaction, support for children’s interaction. The crisis of the play disappearance is seen as an opportunity to establish a dialogue between researchers from different countries, rethink existing programs, eliminate the contradiction of the visibility of the play and at the same time its absence in kindergarten, and strengthen the conditions that support the true game. The greatest educational potential has an open, transformable environment that challenges the child, and the partner position of an adult who does not exploit the game for educational purposes, but supports children’s interaction and co-construction of the game plan. For optimal support of the game at preschool age, the teacher must also provide access to a variety of multifunctional materials, structure the program so that children have enough free time to play during the day, create conditions for communication and joint play of children of different ages.

The article is devoted to the description of CLASS observation methodology, developed for the analysis and evaluation of interaction between the teacher and children in the kindergarten group. There are three main areas and criteria for evaluation of this tool: emotional support, organization of work in a group and methodological support. The article reviews studies carried out during past 20 years. Research show the impact of the criteria identified in this methodology or the overall level of pedagogical skill measured using the CLASS methodology on the cognitive, regulatory and emotional-personal development of preschool children. The analysis shows the importance of assessing the interaction of the teacher with children in pre-school institutions for scientific and practical research in the field of preschool education and development, and also shows the possibilities of using this tool to assess the quality of education in Russia.

The article presents an analytical review of the systems of external independent evaluation of preschool education quality in the United States and Singapore. Special attention is given to the specifics of National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) as well as programs like STARS (Pennsylvania, USA) and SPARK (Singapore). The key characteristics of external quality assessment in these countries include voluntary participation, the presence of a PR component (so that parents understand how to navigate in a variety of kindergartens), support of leadership qualities and training managers within organizations, the use of standardized rating scales (e.g., ECERS-R), which have been recognized by the international community and focus more on evaluating environmental performance rather than children’s results. So the review of the foreign practices of organizing pre-school education quality assessment helps us to better understand how to form our national system of independent expert examination of pre-school education in the most productive way. This is all the more relevant now that Russia is engaged in laying down a new regulatory framework and elaborating a social mandate for high quality educational services.

The article provides an analytic review of the Swedish and German independent preschool education quality assessment systems. Special attention is paid to the role of the founder of a kindergarten in organizing expert examination of the work and training of managers and educators, as well as the use of standardized assessment scales (KESR and KRIPSR, which are modified ECERS scale versions). Despite their specific educational conditions such as decentralized control over nurseries, the Swedish and German systems of independent preschool education quality assessment may serve as an interesting example for local specialists. International experience shows that the external quality assessment by the founders can be combined with both independent evaluation carried out by a special expert community, and with the self-assessment of organizations involved. If the expert community has developed substantive priorities and quality perceptions, including those based on analyzing the standardized international assessment scales, the head of a kindergarten may apply a monitoring procedure which is the most convenient at the moment in order to obtain a wide range of opportunities to improve the educational environment in the daycare center.

The author notes that the most important international initiative in education quality assessing including pre-schools is to determine “sustainable development goals until 2030”. As part of this initiative, national experts, UNESCO and Brookings Institute experts have been engaged in elaborating an initiative to measure the quality of education - Learning Metrics Task Force (LMTF). The author emphasizes the similarities between the areas of quality preschool education development in the LMTF initiative and those contained in the pre-school education FSES. The article deals with the evaluation of Russia’s pre-school education quality using the ECERS scales. It is noted that the ECERS Scales are already being used by two regions in Russia - the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and Moscow. According to the author, the experience of using the ECERS in Russia has shown these international tools to be highly relevant to Russian pre-school education, comprehensible to teachers and experts, and to offer a great potential for developing the Russian system in terms of interaction between kindergarten teachers and preschoolers. The toolkit is of interest to researchers and specialists in regional education systems, heads of pedagogical universities alike because it enables them to get a comprehensive picture of quality both in individual establishments and in the preschool education system as a whole.

In the article current trends of development of early years education are analyzed. Special attention is paid to trends that appeared in accordance with ideas of Lev Vygotsky: to combine non-directive interaction between adult and child and to stimulate child development. The article describes modern tools of evaluation of the educational environment that supports this educational model. Educational standards are the institutional mechanism of quality support of preschool education. Particular attention is paid to American and German approach to assessment of the quality of preschool education. Based on the analysis of systems of these countries author identifies some of the universal trends of preschool education: change of vision of quality of early childhood education, which can be labeled as a “paradigm shift from a paradigm of Piaget to paradigm of Vygotsky” and the creation of an independent system of accreditation of educational programs.
