Relevance of the article. Modern research confirms a decrease in the age of use of digital devices. By the older preschool age, most children have been using digital devices for several years. The involvement of preschoolers in the media space, the peculiarities of parental mediation of the use of digital devices by children make it necessary to work on the formation of digital competence of preschool children.

Description of the research progress. The article is based on a review of publications from Europe, Australia, America, Japan, Turkey and Indonesia from 2006 to 2021 and empirical data from a study of the features of digital competence of older preschool children conducted and published by the authors in 2021.

The results of the study. Older preschool children are active users of various digital devices, have a good command of the technical skills of using digital devices, but do not have formed ideas about their safe and effective use in everyday life. The main purpose of children’s interaction with digital devices is entertainment. Children can get the experience of using digital devices for their own education and development, which is necessary for the formation of digital competence, in preschool educational organizations. However, at the moment there are no relevant programs available to a wide range of teachers. Digital competence is considered as a person’s willingness to effectively and safely apply digital technologies in various areas of life. Within the framework of the proposed structure and content of digital competence for older preschool children, a description of the program for its formation is presented, an example of a lesson is given.

Conclusion. The concept of digital competence can be applied to the study of issues related to the interaction of older preschool children with the digital environment. The presented results and materials will help teachers in developing strategies for teaching preschoolers safe interaction with the digital environment.

The relevance of the topic of the article. An analysis of the indicators of irregularity in a child’s speech, speech disorders, and the existing methods of their measurement shows that disturbances in the fluency of speech in preschool children are mainly associated with evolutionary stuttering. There are no methods of objective assessment of fluency of speech and its disorders in stuttering in the Russian literature and speech therapy practice, while abroad there are different models of categorization of indicators of speech irregularity and various objective methods of measuring fluency of speech in children with normal conditions and with stuttering are used.

The aim of the research. The study of physiological and pathological indicators of speech irregularity of preschool children with stuttering and without speech disorders for the differential diagnosis of normal and deviating speech development is the aim of the study.

Description of the research progress. The study involved 35 children aged 4,5–6,5 years: 16 children without speech disorders and 19 children with stuttering of varying severity. The fluency / irregularity of speech was assessed using technology for assessing the indicators of speech irregularity (Vanderbilt technology) based on the analysis of two representative speech samples of 100 words each (a conversation and a story based on a series of plot pictures): the total percentage of speech irregularity, the percentage of physiological and pathological indicators of speech irregularity were calculated, the dominant types of speech irregularity in both groups were identified.

The results of the study. A significant difference was revealed in physiological and pathological indicators of speech irregularity in preschoolers with normal conditions and with stuttering. The article provides evidence of the connection of mainly pathological indicators of speech irregularity with stuttering, and physiological indicators - with normal speech development. In preschoolers with stuttering, a direct relationship was found between the overall percentage of speech irregularity and the severity of stuttering. In the group of children without speech disorders, preschoolers with a risk factor for stuttering were identified, for whose parent’s recommendations on a protective general and speech regime were developed.

Conclusion. The results of the experimental study demonstrate the advisability of including Vanderbilt’s technology in a comprehensive examination of the speech of a preschool child. The specific nature and frequency of manifestation of indicators of speech irregularity in preschool children make important diagnostic information about the typical / atypical development of speech irregularity.

Recent research indicates that risk competence and perception can be improved through the learning environment. The project ’Riscki’ examined how risk perception and risk competence in young children between three and eight years of age can be observed and measured within the classroom and school context. An intensive package of risky-play activities was administered over a three month period to two classes (four- and six-year-olds) and two age-matched classes served as controls. Before and after the intervention period, quantitative and qualitative aspects of risk competence were evaluated in all children by: (1) a change detection paradigm; (2) teacher ratings; and (3) independent observer’s qualitative ratings. The results showed that risk perception and competence in young children can be improved through an intensive offer of risky-play activities at school. Moreover, the risk detection test and observational questionnaires are promising instruments to measure risk competence.

This article will report on a project, which consulted children about their understandings of safety in relation to the people and places in their lives. Thirty-nine children aged between three and five years attending preschool and long day-care services reflected on their experiences of what is safe and unsafe in their world through dialogue, artwork and construction. The services were based in an inner city in Australia. The article will then examine discourses of safety to explore how children limit their own capacity and willingness to actively and independently engage with the world outside their family and home due to concerns of safety. This examination raises questions for educators, researchers, policymakers and families about how the effects of how adults observe, monitor and restrict children’s play and movement to keep them in close proximity in order to keep them safe.

Background. Currently, constant video surveillance of children in both private and public preschool institutions has become a normal, everyday phenomenon, and has a significant impact not only on the organization of the daily activities of teaching and support staff of preschool institutions, but also on the processes of socialization, education, and psycho-emotional development of children.

Objective. This article analyzes parental perception and attitudes towards constant video monitoring in private preschools. Additionally, its examines the impact of video monitoring on the daily work of preschool staff and raises questions about the potential long-term effects of constant video monitoring on the development of child’s personality.

Sample. The study involved 185 participants, including parents of preschoolers attending private preschools in Moscow and Tyumen, as well as preschool owners and employees.

Methods. The research used a questionnaire survey and an incomplete-sentence test specifically designed for this study, supplemented by clarifying questions when necessary.

Results. The study sheds light on parental motivation for supporting video monitoring. It also explores how constant video monitoring influences the work of teachers and the relationship between parents and private preschools.

Conclusions. The findings raise critical questions for further exploration: What are the long-term implications of constant video monitoring? Are there hidden negative aspects that parents and teachers should consider? How does the availability of new technological tools reshape relationships and communication between parents and children?

Relevance. The toy is a carrier of strong emotionally loaded images. Historically, it acts as an intergenerational translator of culture and is one of the most important factors in the socialization of a child. At the same time, the modern toy market is not regulated in any way in terms of emotional and figurative content. This makes it necessary to analyze the emotional and imaginative qualities of game products for children from the perspective of its developmental function.

Progress of the study. The aim of the study is to identify the emotional content of toys recommended by manufacturers and sellers for preschool children. A sample of 150 photos of toys for preschool children taken in children’s goods stores, on manufacturers’ websites and the most popular marketplaces was carried out. To process the data, the “Image Expert” program was used, which includes a battery of measured image parameters that take into account the modalities of human perception in their expression through specific emotions.

Research results. A quantitative analysis of the range of gaming products included in the research complex, offered for preschool children by manufacturers, stores, and electronic trading platforms, showed that intellectual and constructive toys predominate in the total volume. The analysis set also included soft and interactive toys, professional and household play sets, dolls, robots, and children’s weapons. The analysis of the emotional content of the toys showed a low intensity, inexpressiveness of the toys despite the bright colors and bizarre shape. The perceptual properties of toys are contradictory, which reduces their overall emotional content and gives the toys a deceptive, insincere character. In general, toys offered for preschooler’s appeal more to the child’s mind rather than to the emotions, and also implicitly convey information about the insincerity and unreliability of the world around them.

Conclusions. Emotional well-being determines the full-fledged development of a child, one of the means of ensuring which is a child’s toy as a special socio-cultural and psychological phenomenon. Therefore, a conscious and responsible choice of toys by adults should become a sustainable element of a child’s healthy lifestyle. The data obtained make it possible to outline a scientific perspective and determine the subject of further research, and will also be informative for parents and teachers of educational institutions in order to form their sense of responsibility when choosing toys for preschool children.
