Preschool Education Today Journal has been published since 2007 on the initiative of a group of experts on preschool education with the support of the Russian Psychological Society. The history of preschool education development in our country is linked with the work of world-renowned scientists whose research laid the foundation for the science of child development – L.S. Vygotsky, A.N. Leontyev, A.V. Zaporozhets and many others.
The journal is aimed, first of all, at covering fundamental and applied research in the field of childhood, implemented both in the logics of cultural-historical approach, activity theory, and other theoretical directions in Russia and abroad.
The publication adheres to the principles of open science; therefore, it does not charge authors for publication and readers for access to the journal articles.
The Journal has been a partner of more than one hundred conferences, including: the Congresses of Preschool Educators of the Russian Federation, the World Conference on Early Childhood Education and Development, the competition "Educator of the Year of Russia", the Moscow International Education Salon, the All-Russian Forum of Preschool Educators "CHILDHOOD GUIDANCE", EDCRUNCH, the scientific and practical conference "Early Childhood Care and Education" (ECCE), International Conference "Child in a Digital World" and many others.

In 2022, more than 140,000 readers from more than 100 countries have read the Journal articles, which indicates the high demand for the published material.
